A Mummys View

Telling it like it is

I’m Nominated… Wow Thank You!

MAD Blog Awards

I was reading some blog posts on Bloglovin earlier this evening and came across a post by Attachment Mummy to say she had been nominated for the MADS (congratulations honey!) Not realising the nominations list was out I headed by for a little look and was thrilled but stunned to find myself on the nominations list for best Pregnancy Blog.

For me this is a real honour, especially as I am up against some other wonderful and lovely bloggers, whose pregnancy posts I have thoroughly enjoyed following myself and I am only just coming into my first year of blogging too. Being up against some fabulous bloggers and having spent most of my pregnancy feeling shocking and not writing as much as I would have liked, I don’t expect to make the final cut but have to say that to be nominated at all means the world to me. So whoever nominated me thank you ever so much, you’ve made my day and have given me my first major recognition in the world of blogging, thank you!

If you haven’t yet nominated your favourite blog in any categories don’t worry, nominations can still take place until 18th February 2013 but don’t forget! This is your chance to give your favourite bloggers a big pat on the back!

MAD Blog Awards

MAD Blog Awards

The fourth annual MAD Blog Awards has just launched and celebrates the best and favourites of the blogging world as well as launching new blogging voices into the community.

Anyone can nominate in the awards, whether you are a blogger or simply enjoy reading blogs, all nominations are welcome.

There are 15 categories, you can nominate in one or two, a few, or all of them depending on the genre of blogs you read / are interested in.

When nominations close the four blogs with the most nominations in each catergory are shortlisted as finalists, as well as one selected by the MADS judging panel.

Once finalists are announced everyone is invited to vote for their favourites and an awards ceremony is held in London in September.

I think The MADS are a great opportunity for you to give recognition to some of your favourite bloggers. For example if you are a regular reader of a blog that makes you laugh out loud, why not nominate them in the Most Entertaining Category, or if a blogger has inspired you with amazing use of new technology, why not give them a shout in the Most Innovative Blog category? There are 16 categories in total covering everything from photography and family life to crafts.

I was new to blogging in February last year so I didn’t put myself forward, but I did vote for a few of my favourite bloggers in certain categories and I have done the same again this year. There are some brilliant blogs out there and often it’s hard to pick just one in a specific category as I like so many but I’ve seized the day and cast my votes for some amazing bloggers that inspire me and entertain me.

If you want to see someone receive a pat on the back for the contributions they make or for inspiring you through their blog then don’t sit back hoping someone votes for them, please make your voice heard and NOMINATE NOW.

Reader Appreciation Award

I have some wonderful Blog followers out there and was recently awarded another lovely blog award, The Reader Appreciation Award, from one of them, the lovely Missuswolf who hosts Missuswolf’s Storyland, a fabulous blog dedicated to her love of literature and her own amazing writing skills. If you do get the chance, you must stop by and some of you may like to check out her children’s book, The Ruby of Egypt.

This is how the Award works:

* I have to nominate 10-15 blogs that I love to read (or just the one’s I read the most) and give them this award.

* 10 questions were given to me to answer from Missuswolf and then I am to ask alternate questions to those I nominate.

So… here’s my ten questions to answer:

What book have you read that effected you the most?

I don’t tend to read intense books, I read autobiographies and lighthearted fiction. The ones that really captured my attention, stayed in my mind, made me laugh out loud, and to which the younger me could relate are the Sophie Kinsella Shopaholic series. I was also very moved by Marian Keyes “Is there anybody out there”.

What do you do  to relax?

I have to admit I really am not the best at relaxing! lol! However I guess I get the majority of my relaxation these days when I get a lie in from my hubby OR I simply switch of by watching some of my trash TV. In an ideal world though I’d probably visit a spa for the whole day or at least head out for a treatment, when I was younger and had more of a disposable income that was certainly how I would relax!

Do you listen to music whilst reading/writing – if so – what type of music?

I only ever get to listen to music in the car nowadays to be honest, so often it just tends to be the radio (local stations). In the rare times we have friends for dinner I like a bit of classical, jazz or chill out style music.

Which person has inspired you the most in life and why?

May sound cliche but probably my parents. I have learnt a lot from them, some good, some bad! lol! However they have inspired me to be who I am today, they have supported me in my decisions and through my disability, they have put up with my feisty temperament probably more than I care to admit and have consoled me when I needed it. My dad has inspired me to strive to achieve and my mum’s caring nature has inspired me to look out for my friends and family and to show compassion and understanding of others.

What is your favourite season of the year?

Summer! Most certainly the summer! I love the heat, I love the sun, I love loose clothing and being warm! I love spending time outdoors in the sun and playing with my little girl in the garden and at the park.

If you could spend a day in the life of someone else, who would it be and why?

I am really struggling with this one… I’m asking myself the question and hoping that I will be inspired and a face will pop into my mind for a really justifiable, worthwhile reason, but my mind is just totally blank! I may have to come back to this one!

What is your favourite holiday destination and why?

Our honeymoon in Mauritius was stunning, the people were wonderful and we had such a special and relaxing time. However I also loved Mexico, the resort was tailored to our every need, beautifully landscaped, on the beach, a host of restaurants and style of food to choose from, wonderful and friendly people and a lively atmosphere too. So either would be top of my list again!

If a film was made of your life, what would it be called and why?

My husband quite simply says for my life pre-marriage and kids… Bridget Jones! lol! or in the here and now and to incorporate the past “What if?” as apparently I spend most of my life questioning things, looking back on things or worrying about what might happen… Have to say I can’t argue! lol!

I love thinking of names for character’s in my books. What are your favourite male and female names and why?

Oh gosh this is hard, male names I like the names Benjamin, Joshua and Jacob for boys and for girls… wow so many but pretty names like Grace and Sophia spring to mind

And finally …are you a coffee or tea drinker?

Tea! A total tea drinker. Don’t really enjoy coffee.

So now I have to think up 10 questions for those I nominate…. I’m looking at a theme of ‘then and now’ so here are my questions:

1. What was your favourite childhood book and why?

2. What was your favourite childhood TV programme and why?

3. Did you have a special teddy or toy when you were younger and what were they called?

4. What game / activity would best sum up your childhood?

5. Do you have a special childhood holiday memory and if so what is it and why?

6. Where is your favourite current holiday location and why?

7. What’s your ideal family day together?

8. What is your favourite children’s book today?

9. What is your favourite children’s TV programme / presenter today and why?

10.Would you like to be a child today or back in the era when you grew up and why?

I now nominate:

Not My Year Off

The 40 Year Old Domestic Goddess

Love From Mummy

Tea & Biscotti

Mummy Daddy and Me Makes Three

Sunshine Award

I’m very excited to have recently received the rather gorgeous Sunshine Award from the lovely Fab40Foibles.

The Sunshine Award  is a lovely orange flower that bloggers give to other “bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere”.

To have only been blogging for 3 months and to receive such lovely recognition from other fabulous bloggers is amazing and frankly overwhelming.

To keep it all I have to do is follow three simple rules:

  1. I must thank the person who gave this award in a blog post.
  2.  Do the Q&A below
  3. Pass on the award to 10 deserving and inspiring bloggers, inform them and link to their blogs.

Thank you so so much lovely, lovely Fab40Foibles. I am truly honoured and thrilled to have been thought of by you. You have been a sweetheart and very supportive since I entered mummy blogosphere so thank you truly for helping me on my way and supporting me.

The Questions

Favorite Colour: I am not too sure to be honest but I guess when I think about it I like pinks and lilacs but think it depends on my mood as I also like red so I guess warm tones of some variety?

Favourite Animal:  My cats, they were my first babies. I do also love penguins for some unknown reason! lol!

Favourite Number: I don’t know why but 3 always seems to spring to mind???

Favorite Drink: I love a good cup of tea or a nice refreshing diet coke

Facebook or Twitter : Facebook to share more in-depth, Twitter to have good banter

Your Passion: Organising… is that sad? yes, yes it is… oh dear! (and my family too of course!)

Giving or getting presents: Both.

Favourite Day: “It’s only bloody Friday!”

Favourite Flowers: I love Lily’s and Tulips

Now to the roll call, 10 (ahem ok 11) bloggers, not already listed on Fab 40 Foibles list, who I think deserve the sunshine award:
